RumbleseatI'm the proud owner of a 1968 Dodge Charger i've had since i was 16. I've always loved the Prowler though. Thinking about making a switch and selling the Charger. I don't know a lot about the Prowler so i need some feedback from you. I've never driven one. Will I be happy with it??
Hmmmm.......
Here is a pic of my charger.
CJThat's a tough one. Very nice Charger! No way you can have both??? I can't imagine anyone not loving the Prowler.......once they've had it......

There are a lot of owners in Ontario, perhaps you could hook up with some of them and check out their cars and talk shop!

I love mine so much, my hubby gave me two of them!! Wouldn't trade them for anything else!

BeWareHard to say, they are two totally different types of cars. You did not say how old you are, but it sounds like you have some emotional attachment to the Charger owning it since you were 16. I think you will eventually regret selling it. I would try to keep it and get a Prowler as well, if there is any possible way. There are a few I wish I had back. But I would not get rid of my Kat to do it either because I have strong attachments to this car. It is the most fun of anything I have owned.

dbudnerNice ride! You won't have to worry about a trunk the size of a few third world countries with the prowler
tangled up in BLUE...Prowlers are fun etc etc...but you will regret selling the Charger in years to come...you can only have one first car....the Charger looks very nice.....keep it and save for a Prowler......would give anything to have my first car back again The Charger should continue to appreciate which isn't too bad of a deal either....KEEP THE CHARGER !!!!
MeanGeneDO NOT SALE - It's too nice of a car to sale - Keep it and find a Prowler later - Most keepsakes are hard to replace.JMO
Cnote6MOMI'm with you guys. DO NOT SELL your Charger. It's tempting, I realize but I don't know anyone who wouldn't give to have not only their first car back but one that is so stylish. They just don't make them like that anymore! Try and get both.
R/TOn the other side of the coin, I'd sell it in a heartbeat. Just restored a 70 T/A Challenger for my wife's 50th birthday, and when I get in that thing after driving my Prowler I immediately notice the steering wheel is too big, the seats are uncomfortable as hell, it sucks gas like I'm half owner of a refinery, and I feel like I'm going to roll out of the car if I take a corner at any speed! I'm still trying to talk her into selling it so we can get another Prowler, but she's afraid to drive mine for whatever reason, so she doesn't know what it's like......

Rick

Kat DaddyRumbleseat - KEEP THE CHARGER!!

It looks great. You don't say much about the condition but, even if it needs some work to freshen it up, that investment will only pay bigger dividends in the long run. Given the history you have with the car I can almost guarantee that you would be kicking yourself in the years to come if you let it go.

I currently own three 1970 Superbirds and a Prowler. I would not sell any of the 'birds for a Prowler. I could have and it would have made purchasing the Prowler much easier, but I decided to wait on the Prowler until I could afford both. I love the Prowler but the difference between the 30+ year old muscle cars and the Prowler is like night and day.

You are fortunate enough to own a good looking classic automobile that will only continue to increase in value.
KEEP IT!!

Oh yeah - one more thing. When I want cool style points (and air conditioning), I drive the Prowler. When I want the feel of good ol' Mopar horsepower (and cool style points) I jump in one of the Superbirds.

Dave MillsAs somewhat of a Mopar fanatic myself, I think you will regret selling the Charger later. I have sold three of my Plymouths that I regret to this day.

ed monahanI have never sold ANY of my cars. (They were all re-poed).
You have to decide what you want to do. Think it through and do what you like.
Don't live in the past like all these old fogies! lol
prowlergirlWe love our Prowler, but keep the Charger. Ron

TerryRumbleseat,

I can't think of a more impractical car than my Prowler.
1. I don't drive it except on the weekends (it doesn't get me to work or buy groceries).
2. I have three kids, my Prowler has two seats. (the driver's seat is strictly off limits to the kids)
3. I refuse to drive it in the rain or when the streets are wet.
4. It must remain in the garage.
5. Plenty of trunk space for a laptop.
6. Mine only plays 50's hits.
7. I'm not sure the top works. (never put it up)
8. The ride is extremely ruff. (stiff)

So, to summarize, I absolutely love it. Never had a toy anywhere close to it. It comes with grins, both mine and those who see it. (I'd say the Prowler has the greatest "Grin Factor" of all cars)

BTW, keep the Charger. Go ahead, get in debt. Our economy needs all the help it can get. It's the patriotic thing to do. Go USA!!

Terry

Randy CobbSome really good points made above, but the one that sticks out in my mind is the one that you only have one first car.

How many times have I said I wish I still had or could find my first car?!

FL Blue KatRight on Randy !!

Wish I still have that '68 Camaro, 396, Muncie 4-speed, SS/RS packages, yellow with black vinyl top. Sold when I went on active duty ('70). Girl who bought it totaled it 3 weeks later when she ran a red light and got hit broadside. Not a scratch on her but car was history. I should have put it on blocks in my Dad's garage.

KEEP THE CAR !!!

Rick

cnote6I say keep your car, but on the other hand I have never met as many good friends with any other car than the Prowler.

Rick

Rick, here is some advice I've given to some other guys who said there wife was afraid to drive the cat....

It does take some getting used to. When I first got mine, it made me nervous. I'm only 5" tall, and I had a more difficult time seeing. I can't see any of the wheels or the nose of the car, but I practiced and you just kind of do it by "feel"!!

Take your wife to a mall parking lot on a Saturday or Sunday morning before the mall opens. That way, you have a lot of wide-open space. Let her drive it around the mall. Practice parking and backing up, etc. That way she won't have to deal with other traffic while she's trying to learn. Believe me........it won't take long!! One guy tried that with his wife and then posted back at me that the only problem he had then was to get the keys away from his wife!!!

I have two of them.........LOVE driving them and so will she!!

Dale BeamanKeep your first car - I wish that I had!! My garage would be perfect if my first car was sitting beside my Prowler!!
Stray CatI agree with Mean Gene - I sold my first muscle car five years ago after owning it for 20 years. I bought a Prowler. I love the prowler but, MY car was gone.

I bought back the Bird in April and I am SOOOOO glad I got it back. The guy took good care of it... I am lucky.

Keep your car, wait for the $$$$ of Prowlers to go down even more (they will) and snatch one up - and keep it forever...

RumbleseatThank You for all of your replies!
It's interesting to hear different opinions.
But i know it is my first car, and there's a lot of memories there. One other thing is I was born in 1968, so i'm as old as the car. The car is in excellent condition: 440, 3speed auto, shift kit, etc. (goes like hell)!
Hard on fuel though..
If the prowlers are coming down in price, maybe i'll wait till' i find the right one so i can keep both. That would be the ultimate!
Thanks again everyone, and Love This Website!!!
Stray CatHey Ed,

If you repossess your own car, does that mean you still own it ?

John

solidayI recently had to make this same decision. I decided to sell it to my 70 challenger to my sister for five bucks. I now have room to park my prowler and I can still get to see my old car.
